On Wednesday 10th June 2015, the School Choir went to The Dome in Doncaster for a Sing Out.
The Sing Out is an event organised by Doncaster Music Services to encourage children to sing and perform. Children from 20 different schools in Doncaster all learnt the same songs and then joined together with 600 children to perform them in unison. The effect was fantastic and the children worked incredibly hard all day rehearsing for the evening concert.
The Shaw Wood Choir had been rehearsing the songs for several months in order to perfect them and they certainly shone through on the night!
It was a fantastic evening, thoroughly enjoyed by both the children and staff participating and the parents who made up the audience.
Well done to all the wonderful children that made our choir sensational!
As you may be aware, Shaw Wood has chosen to support The Mayflower Animal Sanctuary, a Doncaster charity that was established in 2003. The charity rescues abused and abandoned dogs and cats providing care and sanctuary until permanent and responsible homes can be found.
Last year Mayflower re-homed over 350 dogs and 120 cats and we managed to raise a total of £112.13p.
If you would like more information about the charity, please visit www.mayflowersanctuary.co.uk.
The school will continue to support Children in Need, Comic Relief and Operation Christmas Child.
Shaw Wood Academy started having Junior Road Safety Officers back in September 2013. Our Current Road Safety Officers are Adam and Jade. During this time they have been committed and thought carefully about the children’s safety some of the things they worked on are:
All their hard work is recorded in a folder and will then be sent off to be judged by the Life Wise centre.
We are continuing our work trying to keep children safe and our Junior Road Safety Officers will be interviewing for two more enthusiastic Road Safety Officers who will take over in September.
The children have been collecting shoe boxes in aid of Samaritans Purse.
Two type of boxes have been collected. One for boys and one for girls.
The children have watched a DVD to show the excitement of the children when they receive their shoe boxes and open them for the first time.
Gifts include toys such as teddies, dolls, cars & hygiene items such as tooth brushes, toothpaste, soap etc.
In total the school has received 63 boxes with support from adults and children.
