English

This half term in English we will be reading The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child. You could help your child by watching the videos or reading the stories. Please discuss with your child the characters and use words that describe them (adjectives) e.g., big, small, spikey, and round. In school we will be acting out, re-telling and writing about these characters.

Topic Work

This half term our topic is The Gruffalo’s Feast, where the children will learn about food hygiene, and making food. Over the coming weeks, the children will be researching different recipes in preparation for the feast, this will help them with their final challenge. The children will be exploring the five senses through science experiments.

Maths

In maths, the children will be continuing their work around addition and subtraction using practical objects to help. They will start to apply these skills to problem solving and reasoning. Please help your child to practise recognising numbers up to 100 and counting on forwards and backwards from these numbers.

PE

PE is on a Tuesday. Please ensure that your child comes to school with the correct kit – black or navy joggers/tracksuit bottoms, black or navy shorts, a white or pale blue plain round neck t-shirt, a navy or black tracksuit top (without a hood), school jumper or fleece and trainers. If the weather allows it, we will try to have the children outside for PE sessions.

Homework

Homework this term will be linked to the phonics scheme, it is important the children know these sounds and are able to read the words without sounding out,
please sign and date when you have completed it at the bottom of the page.

Reading

As part of the Little Wandle Scheme children need to be able to read at 95% fluency (which means no sounding out of the words). This is why the children are given the book they have read in school to practise this at home. Please work with your child to ask them questions about the story based on what they have read.

Look at the back page of the book for more advice, under review: after reading

Thank you for your continued support
