> South Yorkshire Finals at The English Institute of Sport Stadium 2017

On Thursday 16th March 2017, we attended the South Yorkshire Finals at the EIS Stadium in Sheffield. Children from across all of Key Stage 2 went to represent Doncaster in a variety of sports.  To begin with, we attended the opening ceremony which enthused all of the children to excel in their particular field.  As the day went on, it became apparent that our children were among the top five teams across South Yorkshire out of nearly 100 schools that attended.  The results are shown below:

– Year 3/4 Gymnastics – 5th place
– Year 5/6 Gymnastics – 3rd place
– Year 5/6 Athletics – 4th place
– Year 6 Boccia – 5th place
– Year 6 New-age Kurling – 1st place
– Year 4 Basketball – 2nd place

Clearly, all of the handwork and determination that the children put in before the event and during the tournaments leading up to this fantastic competition were well worth it.  The children thoroughly enjoyed the entire day and we thank those parents who attended as they helped to spur the children on.  The Shaw Wood team spirit was evident throughout this memorable day. Mrs Mullen was speechless as ever.

“To say I am proud of the children involved in this tournament would be an understatement.  I was amazed at the dedication and team spirit that each child showed.  They supported and encouraged each other throughout every field and track event they competed in.  These children are so committed to sports and they are fantastic ambassadors for school sports.  I cant wait to go to the South Yorkshire Finals at the E.I.S to see how their journey ends” Mrs Mullen

“We went on an athletics tournament and we came second.  That means we are through to the E.I.S!!” Chloe. G
“I enjoyed winning my race and coming second over all” Emily. D
