PE Sports Funding
At Shaw Wood Academy, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.
The first amount of this funding was allocated to primary schools in the Autumn Term. For the 2016/17 academic year Shaw Wood Academy has been allocated £9,970.
This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
How Shaw Wood Academy is spending our funding?
To get the best value we can for Shaw Wood Academy pupils, we will be focusing on the training needs of staff, which we hope will have greater impact in the long term.
The academy has entered an agreement with a specialist coach from Mini Kicks Education. The funding goes towards having Mini Kicks Education attending the academy on a regular basis. In their time in school they work across all year groups in a variety of sport to run a programme that is inclusive for all pupils.
More information on Mini Kicks Education can be found at : https://www.minikicks.org/education/
Some of the funding will be and has been used to run and part run after school clubs such as our popular Mini Kicks Club and other sports clubs, and we have also purchased new sporting equipment to be used at PE and breaks.
After the success of the programme last year we have extended the provision provided by by having a more detailed programme of coaching including lunch time activities and after school clubs. Other additional extra activities are aimed at improving the pupils self esteem and leadership skills but doing it in a fun way.
Our aim is to raise the quality of every P.E. session, leading to a level of skill, knowledge and enjoyment, which will help our pupils participate in P.E. for life. We aim to help every pupil enjoy P.E, regardless of their skill set, by offering a variety of P.E activities and after school clubs.
