School Council

At Shaw Wood Academy, the thoughts and feelings of our pupils are important to us which is why we have a school council to represent the pupils. The School Council meet with Mr Ridley every two weeks, and come up with ideas to improve the school and then report these ideas back to the Senior Leadership Team.

During the school year so far, the School Council has:

• Picked the charity the school will support this year via a whole school vote and have also started funding raising for the chosen charity.
• Carried out a week long parking campaign outside school which has had a very positive impact on the parking
• Met with the school catering team to discuss school dinners and represent the other students in changes they would like to implement
• Discussed and chosen an environmental project they would like the school to focus on – the project chosen relates to plastic.
• Presented at staff meetings around the importance of voting and being part of a team.

Over the remainder of the year the school council will be speaking to their class about changes they would like to see in the playground and to discuss any potential investments they think the school should make in these areas.
They will also be representing the other children on any other matters as they arise.

Our School Council members have done a fantastic job this week on parking patrol.

This morning their hard work was rewarded with a bacon sandwich and a hot chocolate!

Some of our Year 5 and Year 6 school council members met with our cook. They discussed the menu and some of the changes the pupils would like to see. This has resulted in some changes to the menu including more fruit, more vegetarian options and other things that our pupils felt would improve school dinners. Thank you to Karen for meeting the children and to our school council for representing the other students so professionally, as always they were amazing.

Two of our Year 5 school council representatives visited Armthorpe Community Library to drop off funds raised via the Easter Bake Sale.

They were greeted by the hard working volunteers in the library who were overwhelmed with the first donation of £200 made by the school.

Thank you to our community for supporting the library and thank you to the volunteers who gave the children VIP treatment whilst they were there.

The children were excellent ambassadors for the school and really made us all very proud to be part of Team Shaw Wood.
