Shaw Wood Academy has designed a bespoke curriculum with the children, and their interests at the heart of what we do. We provide exciting, stimulating learning challenges, underpinned by core British Values, where children become fully immersed in their learning experiences. Each challenge is planned to encompass a range of curriculum subjects and provides children with daily opportunities that make the learning meaningful and relevant. Children thrive on the experiential learning. Through making links to real life context the children are able to retain the knowledge and skills that they have learned to future challenges.

We prepare our children to be life-long learners who aspire to achieve their best, able to bounce back from setbacks and learn from their mistakes. In addition to academic excellence, our carefully planned Challenge Curriculum supports the children to develop their skills across the four core competencies of:

Our Challenge Coach works in partnership with teaching staff to support children to develop these skills through problem solving challenges. This enables our children to have the confidence and determination to succeed in their learning.

"It is great to experiment with new things and have the freedom to solve problems in different ways. I am more confident to share my ideas and I don’t give up when things don’t work, I just try again but in a different way."
