Computing

At Shaw Wood, we follow the Teach computing scheme of work. This is built around an innovative progression framework where computing content has been organized into interconnected networks, we call learning graphs created by subject experts, using the latest pedagogical research and teacher feedback.

It is a nation-wide scheme which enables pupils' firsthand experiences of how to use technology in the real world. They work on understanding networks and how to use the internet safely, through to how to edit and improve photographs by using editing programs and using computers to compose a range of musical pieces. As they progress through school they will also develop their knowledge and understanding of databases, 3D modelling and creating their own games through programming.

Our vision at Shaw Wood is to align with that of the National Centre for computing: for every child in every school in England to have a world-leading computing education.

We started using Teach Computing in September 2023, so we have mapped out how to build up the children’s knowledge and skills over 3 years to account of any gaps from previous years.
