Physical Education
At Shaw Wood we recognise the importance PE plays in the curriculum and are committed to providing all children with opportunities to engage fully in PE.
PE should provide opportunities for all pupils to become physically literate and confident in a way which also supports their health and fitness. Children should acquire not only physical skills, knowledge and understanding, but also the awareness and importance of leading healthy, active lives as well as the values of sportsmanship, fairness and respect through the sports and activities they undertake. As a school we want to promote participation in sport and physical activity as part of an active and healthy lifestyle.
P.E. is taught twice a week in KS1 and KS2, each class has an indoor and outdoor weekly lesson. We teach P.E. through a range of skills, sports and games. We aim to provide the opportunity for children to take part in individual, team, co-operative and competitive activities ensuring that all children’s needs and abilities are met.
We follow the ‘Your P.E’ scheme of work across school which allows a broad and balanced curriculum across key phases. We aim to provide high quality PE lessons which are exciting, challenging and enjoyable.
