Headteacher's Welcome
A very warm welcome to Shaw Wood. We are a friendly, hardworking, fun loving, community focused school. We do our very best to put your child’s academic, social and holistic needs and requirements at the forefront of everything that we do.
Our aim is to create a safe, happy, exciting learning environment, where all children have fun while they learn and are able to achieve the highest standards possible. Whilst we have high standards and expectations around behaviour, attendance, punctuality and school work; we are a fully inclusive school and support all children to achieve their best. A vital part of this is to develop children’s self-esteem and self-confidence through our THRIVE ethos and nurturing environment, creating an atmosphere where everyone is valued regardless of their age, gender, race, faith, or ability.
We have a clear focus on the core skills in English and Mathematics that are needed to succeed in life and the modern world. Reading is central to what we do with an ambition to ensure that the children develop these key skills, but also a deep love for reading. We aim to build upon the cultural capital that children bring from home to school. So, their accumulation of knowledge, behaviour and skills develops over time through our planned curriculum, the learning experiences and wider opportunities.
I am very proud to be the headteacher of Shaw Wood and know that the staff team here will ensure that you and your child feel welcome and supported as part of the Shaw Wood family.
We hope that our school website, provides you with the relevant information that you need and that you find it interesting and helpful. However, the best way to find out about what we do, what makes us unique and why, we are the right school for your child, is to come and visit us. We truly believe in working in partnership and that involves working with you, your child, the staff team, our governors, other professionals, and the wider community. We have strong links with local businesses, Armthorpe Parish Council and other schools.
