British Values

At Shaw Wood we promote British Values to ensure that our children leave our school prepared for life in modern Britain. The values of respect, democracy, rule of law and individual liberty are underpinned in everything we do within our Challenge Curriculum.

Rule of Law

At Shaw Wood, the children are encouraged to think about their own values and attitudes and those they encounter in the world around them. They are taught, through our behaviour systems to understand, contribute to and accept school rules and sanctions. We ensure positive relationships with the local police, who visit school to explain the rule of law to them and the consequences of their actions. Children learn that rules and systems are in place to safeguard them from potential danger.Children are encouraged to express their views and opinions on the application of the law.

Children are able to articulate how and why we need to behave in school and demonstrate they understand and abide by these.KS2 children understand why we have laws, how these work and how the rule of law relates to their own lives. Children are able to discuss and debate issues in relation to these.
